Why is Shakira absent from the 2022 World Cup?

Shakira was named the “queen” of World Cup music with the songs Hips don’t lie Bamboo, Waka Waka, La la la.

Billboard said that during the previous 3 World Cups, Shakira ‘s influence was so great that it became a “monument” that many artists were difficult to overcome. According to Musicmundial , recently, FIFA invited her to attend the opening ceremony of the 2022 World Cup at Al Bayt Stadium (Qatar) on November 20 because the songs they released before were not successful as expected.

Hayya Hayya (Better Together) – song performed by Trinidad Cardona, Davido and Aisha, only achieved 27 million views after 7 months of debut on YouTube. FIFA also received a series of comments asking for the reuse  of Shakira’s Waka Waka  .

But the female singer changed her mind about her appearance at the upcoming opening ceremony due to personal reasons. Spanish news agency reports that Shakira has pulled out of the opening day of the world’s biggest soccer tournament.

Adriana Dorronsoro, one of the show’s showrunners confirmed: “Manager has confirmed to me that Shakira won’t be performing at the opening ceremony, but they won’t say if she will be in another role. during the World Cup or not”.

Shakira began her relationship with the World Cup in 2006, with  Hips don’t lies/Bamboo.  In an interview, the singer said the song’s тιтle was inspired by her conversations with the musicians. She explained that when she hears a really catchy tune, she will subconsciously shake her hips: “My hip will never lie. If it doesn’t wobble, it means the tune isn’t okay.”

Shakira performed  Hips don’t lie  at the opening ceremony of the 2006 World Cup in Munich (Germany), attracting 500 million and 700 million television viewers respectively. In 2021,  Time Out New York  ranked  Hips Don’t Lie  at number 11 on the list of Greatest Pop Songs of All Time.

Following that success, 4 years later, Shakira sang the official song  Waka Waka  of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Waka Waka  was listed by Billboard on the list of the 50 best Latin songs of the 2010s. In the list of the best World Cup cheer songs of all time of many magazines, the song always won a high position.

In 2014, Shakira continued to perform  La la la  at the World Cup in Brazil, the second song of the tournament. The song has typical Brazilian dance music, combining electro house tunes. Therefore, the song is both exciting and mysterious and heroic.

In her successful singing career, Shakira has won many prestigious awards such as 3 Grammy Awards, 13 Latin Grammy Awards, 7 Billboard Awards…

For 3 consecutive years from 2012 to 2015, she also continuously appeared in the list of 100 most powerful women in the world voted by Forbes magazine. She has been given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The Celebrity Net Worth website has estimated that the female singer’s fortune is up to 300 million USD (equivalent to 7,400 billion VND) thanks to income not only from singing, composing, producing music, acting, etc. but also design and business.

In 2010, Shakira accepted an invitation to perform the theme song of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and performed the MV Waka Waka in Madrid (Spain). Also participating in the filming of the MV were a series of famous players at that time such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Dani Alves, Lionel Messi, Gerard Piqué and Refael Marquez.

That was the chance for Shakira and Gerard Piqué, a player 10 years younger than her, to know and fall in love. After 1 year, the two publicly dated and welcomed two sons born in 2013 and 2015.

Despite living together and having two children, Shakira did not choose to get married. Their love story received the support and admiration of the majority of the public. On social networks, the singer often shows off happy family pH๏τos.

However, after 12 years together, in June 2022, Shakira announced her separation from Pique. Initially, the singer revealed that she did not think she would end up with the Barca midfielder. However, when she learned about Pique’s affair with Clara Chia Martin, she was determined to cut it off completely.

In an interview with  Elle  magazine in October, Shakira spoke for the first time after the breakup: “It’s hard to talk about it, especially since I’m still trying to get over it and I’m a public figure. so it’s not normal to break up. It’s not only difficult for me but also for the children. It’s extremely difficult!”.

The female singer confided that she was going through the most difficult and darkest moment of her life and could only turn to music to save herself.
