Tom Holland reveals he’s in talks about whether there’s a story worthy of Spider-Man 4: ‘It will have to be worth the while of the character’

Talks are underway into whether Tom Holland will will slip on the Spider-Man suit for a fourth solo film.

Considering that recent predecessors Tobey Maguire starred in three solo films and Andrew Garfield notched two, Holland would set a new precedent by scoring his fourth top of the marquee as Spider-Man.

‘All I can say is that we have been actively engaging in conversations about what it could potentially look like for a fourth rendition of my character,’ Holland told Collider at the recent press conference with the Critics Choice Association. ‘Whether or not we can find a way to do justice to the character is another thing. I feel very protective over Spider-Man.’

During the conversation the actor expressed a healthy dose of gratitude for having the privilege to work on such an iconic franchise.

‘I feel very, very lucky that we were able to work on a franchise that got better with each movie, that got more successful with each movie, which I think is really rare, and I want to protect his legacy,’ the London, England native said of the franchise’s legacy. ‘So, I won’t make another one for the sake of making another one. It will have to be worth the while of the character.’

Tom Holland, 27, revealed he has been in talks about whether he will star in a fourth solo Spider-Man film that would serve as the sequel to Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)

The British actor last played Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), which had the unique storyline of also incorporating Maguire and Garfield when the multiverse is broken open, allowing visitors from alternate realities to enter Parker’s universe.

His assessment about each of his three films, all directed by Jon Watts, becoming more successful was spot on.

The first of his three appearances came in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), which also starred Michael Keaton, Jon Favreau, Gwyneth Paltrow, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Bokeem Woodbine, Tyne Daly, Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr.

It ended up becoming a bonafide hit with fans, grossing $880.2 million at the worldwide box office against a budget of $175 million.

Two years later Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) dropped with Holland sharing the spotlight with Samuel L. Jackson, Zendaya, Cobie Smulders, Jon Favreau, J. B. Smoove, Jacob Batalon, Martin Starr, Tony Revolori, Marisa Tomei and Jake Gyllenhaal

This time around the film topped the major milestone by earning $1.132 billion while working with a budget of $160 million.

And in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), and its Spider-Man trio with Macguire and Garfield joining the cast, along with Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jacob Batalon, Jon Favreau, Jamie Foxx, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, Benedict Wong, Tony Revolori, Marisa Tomei

The third installment in the Watts-Holland franchise grossed a whopping $1.922 billion against a $200 million budget.

The British actor revealed he has been in conversation about what a fourth installment could potentially look like for the title character: 'Whether or not we can find a way to do justice to the character is another thing. I feel very protective over Spider-Man'

Holland's real-life girlfriend, Zendaya, has starred in all three of the latest franchise films; they are seen getting handsy in Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)

In the last installment in the Watts-Holland franchise, Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), Holland was joined by other recent Spider-Man stars Tobey Macguire and Andrew Garfield

In the recent history of the Spider-Man franchise Macguire played the title role in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy (2002–2007), while Garfield took over the role of the superhero in the two Amazing Spider-Man films (2012-2014) directed by Marc Webb.

As talks with Holland continue, a release date for the proposed sequel to No Way Home also remains to be determined.

‘But that said, if we can figure that out, I would be a fool not to put the suit back on again because I owe everything to Spider-Man,’ the London, England native admitted, before adding, ‘I love the character and the people I get to work with. So, I would love to tell another story, but I’ll only tell it if we can find the right one.’

Tom Holland is now trending on Twitter following his comments about whether he will be suiting up for Spider-Man 4.
