British actor Tom Holland (25 years old) is the “king” of the box office, pushing revenue at North American theaters high with two of the three films leading the revenue charts.
Over the weekend, action adventure Uncharted held the No. 1 spot while Spider-Man: No Way Home, both starring Tom Holland, followed closely at No. 3.
Sony’s video game adaptation Uncharted brought in $23.2 million from 4,275 theaters in its second weekend of release, bringing its North American total to $83.3 million. Meanwhile, another Sony blockbuster, Spider-Man: No Way Home, took third place with 5.7 million USD from 3,002 theaters, down 23% in its 11th week in theaters. Since its debut on the big screen in December 2021, the Spider-Man movie has maintained third place on the North American box office revenue chart – a rare achievement during the pandemic. As of February 27, Spider-Man: No Way Home earned a total of 779.8 million USD. With this momentum, Spider-Man could soon become the third film ever to surpass $800 million in North America.
In second place, the Channing Tatum-directed Dog earned $10.1 million from 3,827 theaters over the weekend, bringing the film’s North American total to $30.8 million. That’s a good result for a film with a production budget of only $15 million.
Two newly released films, Studio 666 and Cyrano, failed to make a notable mark on the box office charts. Studio 666 belongs to the horror-comedy-music genre about Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl and his bandmates’ efforts to release their 10th studio album which landed at number 8 with 1, 5 million USD from 2,306 theaters in North America. The film received mixed reviews, although some critics admitted that Studio 666 was at least some fun to watch. Associated Press critic Jake Coyle said the film is “a decent sketch that lasts nearly two hours.” David A.Gross – who runs the film consulting firm Franchise Entertainment Research – calls Studio 666 an oddity, an event built around the fame of Dave Grohl and the band Foo Fighters.
Cyrano is a romantic musical film directed by Joe Wright and starring actor Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) that won 9th place. The film received good reviews, based on the 2018 musical and play Cyrano de Edmond Rostand’s 1987 Bergerac tells the story of an emotional love triangle. The film opened in only 797 locations and grossed $1.4 million. With a production budget of 30 million USD, Cyrano’s profit margin is a big question mark.
Tom Holland became a movie star when he played Peter Parker/Spider-Man in superhero movies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe such as Captain America: Civil War (2016), Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Spider-Man Man: Far From Home (2019) and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021).
