Tuesday, fifteen years ago, saw the marriage of music’s power couple.
Looking back at Beyonc? and Jay-Z’s lavish (and sеcrеt) wedding, PEOPLE is celebrating the “Crаzy in Love” couple’s wedding anniversary on Tuesday.
The couple picked April 4, 2008, as the date in honor of their mutual love of the number four. Just 40 guests attended the event, which took place in JAY-Z’s 13,500-square-foot Manhattan home.
“There was a lot of crying during the wedding, and it was really spiritual,” an insider told PEOPLE at the time of the celebration.
However, the rapper and the 41-year-old Lemonade singer had a minor setback when they went to Scarsdale, New York, to pick up their marriage certificate, ruining their plans to keep the celebration quiet at the moment.
However, that didn’t deter them.
Held within JAY-Z’s penthouse, the magical wedding took place in his living room beneath a big white tent. By midafternoon, flowers and candelabras started to appear on the pavement outside his opulent Tribeca location.
At the time, florist Amy Vongpitaka, who had 70,000 white dendrobium orchids flown in from Thailand, remarked, “It looked like a palace.”
Although “everyone danced to a lot of hip-hop and oldies, including Jackson 5 and Whitney Houston,” according to another source, the event continued until five in the morning without either of them giving a performance. A first dance was also performed.
Beyonc? and JAY-Z maintained the concept of intimacy by forgoing a best man and maid of honor. With the “Love on Top” singer’s stunning white gown (selected by her mother!) and his black tux, they did, however, adhere to convention.
One person at the time claimed that she “looked beautiful.”
Social media wasn’t extremely popular at the time, but the couple did ask guests to turn in their phones for the celebration.

Later, Beyonc? discussed the marriage for the first time in her Seventeen cover story from December?January 2008.
“I guess probably that we’re all human,” she replied. “Even if you’re the most attractive, successful, and coolest guy in the world and appear flawless on magazine covers, you still experience sadness, hurt sentiments, cоnfusiоn, vulnerability, anxiety, and feаr. You need to meet someone with whom you can endure difficult times.”
In the music video for “Ԁie with You,” released in 2017, Queen B provided viewers with an intimate glimpse into her marriage to JAY-Z. The movie showed the couple walking down the aisle while rose petals were thrown at them by guests.
The pair has welcomed their three children, Blue Ivy, 11, and Sir and Rumi, 5,?, the fraternal twins, as well as embarked on tours and music releases after being married.
