“Thank God he didn’t”: Drake Nearly Featured in Gears of War, and It Would Have Completely Changed the Franchise.

Gears of War is one of the most popular gaming franchises and has helped Xbox standout as a brand. The franchise has a massive community that is always excited for these games and the upcoming title E-Day has got everyone hyped.

Several celebrities have worked in video games and popular rapper and singer Drake was also on the verge of featuring in a Gears of War title. While this didn’t happen, it would have changed the franchise from what we know today.

Drake Almost Featured in Gears of War 3

Gears of War 3 is the third mainline entry in the franchise and the final game in the original trilogy. The game was launched back in 2011 for Xbox 360 and was critically-acclaimed. The game was praised for several aspects and was a commercial success as well.

While many have played the game, a lot of players may not know that popular Canadian rapper and singer Drake, who was recently in limelight for his beef with Kendrick Lamar, was almost cast in Gears of War 3. Drake was the original choice to be the voice actor for character Jace Stratton.

However, he did not land the role as there were some scheduling conflicts and the role went to actor Michael B. Jordan. However, there were also reports that Drake allegedly quit the role because he couldn’t deliver what was asked of him on his voice.

Drake quitting the role is also understandable as the voice of the character is very demanding, given that he is yelling during combat. He’s a singer and couldn’t risk anything going wrong with his voice and could be the reason why he made this decision.

Fans Are Glad Drake Did Not Voice Jace

This fact about Drake almost joining Gears of War 3 cast was recently posted on Gears of War community on X/Twitter. While fans were happy to know a lesser-known fact about one of the best games in the franchise, they were relieved that the singer did not feature.

One fan said that Michael B. Jordan has the better voice and they could not see Jace Stratton returning to the screen without him. Another fan added, “Thank God he didn’t.”

A few fans also shared the same emotion about Drake voicing the character. Jace is one of the characters that players play within four-player co-op and given the importance of the character, players are sure that Michael B. Jordan has done a better job than Drake could have.

Sure, nobody knows the end result if Drake had stayed in the role, but fans are happy with the voice they have got for the character.
