Selena Gomez looked back on the moment she first met Taylor Swift.
In an interview on the Therapuss with Jake Shane podcast, Selena revealed that their paths first crossed during their teenage years, when they were both dating members of the Jonas Brothers.
“Taylor and I dated the Jonas Brothers. I dated Nick and she dated Joe. And everything was, it was cute, we were young. We all know and love each other now and it’s so cute. We don’t know what we were doing,” she shared.
Despite their breakups with the brothers, the two forged a lasting bond. “She and I like to say the best thing we got out of those relationships was each other because it was really sweet,” she remarked.
The pair quickly became inseparable. “At that age, we became best friends, bonded over the breakup as girls do. And then we then just stuck around for all the ups and downs that came after. Here we are now 16 years later.”
Selena also revealed that it was around that time she got an early listen to one of Taylor’s most iconic hits.
“I was about 15, she was about 18 and that’s when it was the crazy curly Taylor and she had all these bracelets that went all the way up. I believe ‘Love Story’ was the first song she had ever played me, and it wasn’t released yet,” she recalled.
Selena remarked that she was instantly captivated by the song. “I was in a hotel room and I remember it vividly, it was just one of those songs I instantly heard and thought this is one of the most beautiful songs ever.”
Back in July, Selena celebrated her 33rd birthday with Taylor along with other friends and family.
“As I prepare to celebrate my 33rd birthday, I can’t help but reflect on the incredible journey that has brought me here,” Selena wrote on Instagram as she posted snapshots of the birthday celebration.
She went on: “This past year has truly been the most beautiful year of my life, and I owe so much of that to all of you.”

Hollywood singer and actress Selena Gomez marked her 33rd birthday with an intimate rooftop disco-themed celebration with her best friend, global superstar Taylor Swift celebrating with her.
In a recent social media post, Selena shared a photo carousel from her birthday bash, which was attended by her closest family and friends. The festive snaps included a sweet photo of Selena and Taylor seated together in a balloon-filled rooftop venue, glowing in hues of gold, silver, and black.
“As I prepare to celebrate my 33rd birthday, I can’t help but reflect on the incredible journey that has brought me here,” Selena wrote in her caption.
She expressed her gratitude for the past year, calling it the most beautiful year of her life
“This past year has truly been the most beautiful year of my life, and I owe so much of that to all of you,” she added.
Fans, lovingly referring to them as TayLena, were thrilled to see the two best friends reunite. The last time they were seen publicly was in May during a girls’ night out at The Monkey Bar in New York City. Taylor and Selena have been close for years, supporting each other through career milestones and personal challenges.
In one of her past Instagram stories, Selena showed her support for Taylor after the singer regained control of her music masters.
“YES YOU DID THAT TAY,” Selena said in a Instagram story. “So proud!”
