In 2018, Selena checked herself into a treatment facility while also shutting down her social media accounts.
She got candid with Entrepreneur magazine as she said Instagram ‘would just make me feel like, “Wow, um, I’m a piece of s***. And I don’t look that good and I don’t feel that good.”‘
Selena has 273 million followers on Instagram currently but when she left the social media site at that time, she was the most followed person on Instagram.
She said she felt better being off the platform: ‘There was a huge release of no longer feeling like I’m in this tiny phone where people are saying the most hateful things.
‘Why would I fill up my days with that? I also started to realize this entire world of people was living an unrealistic life. They were perfect and beautiful and happy all the time.
‘But once I closed the app and glanced up, I was like, “Wait a minute. I’m going to talk to this cashier about my drink, and I’m going to talk to this person I ran into. It’s about having a human connection with people.”‘

Selena has been very open about her struggles as in 2015 she revealed that she had been diagnosed with lupus and had gone through chemo to treat it, and in 2017 she had to undergo a kidney transplant
She battled anxiety, depression, and panic attacks as a result of her lupus and in 2016 she announced she was ‘taking some time off’ to focus on mental health.
Selena was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2018; she previously said that the diagnosis came as a relief to her because it ‘explained so much’ about her struggles.
Now she is teaming up with her mother and Pierson who interviewed her for The Newsette last year and was open about her ADHD, anxiety, and OCD.
Gomez said that felt a bond with Pierson over the revelations as she was reminded about how the press criticized her when she was open about self-doubt as she explained: ‘I got so angry that my story was twisted.’
Now the trio are getting ready to launch WonderMind with the aim of making it cool to talk about mental health and Selena’s bonds with her business partners has never been stronger.
Gomez said: ‘It’s one of the moments I felt closest to my mom — us coming together to talk about something we each have experienced in our own manner. It was wonderful. And then to be understood by Daniella was even better.
