Jack Wilshere has analysed Phil Foden’s positive points as England qualify for the semi-finals of EURO 2024.
Foden could start in his first semi-final at a major tournament for the Three Lions when they face the Netherlands on Thursday, based on Southgate’s post-match assessment of his performance against Switzerland.
The Manchester City star will be hoping he has made enough of a positive impression on Gareth Southgate to retain his place in the team. At elite level, no player is guaranteed a starting place, especially ahead of a knockout tie.
Jack Wilshere believes Foden put in a much-improved performance for England against Switzerland, replicating his Man City form of last season.
Wilshere said of his junior: “Phil Foden looks more like the player we see at Manchester City. Rather than being asked to play wide and cut inside, he mostly stays in his position and has more of an impact on the game.”
