The DCEU did not get the best of starts after the disappointing reviews for Man of Steel and Batman vs Superman: Dawn of War. Things were not looking so hot for DC at that point, but things took a turn for the better after 2018’s Aquaman was released.

After all, Aquaman, starring Jason Momoa, surpassed all expectations when it came to critical reception as well as Box Office success, even going on to earn more than $1 billion at the box office, making it the highest-grossing DCEU movie of all time.

A still from Aquaman (2018)Aquaman 2 Was Plagued With Controversy Due To Featuring Amber Heard

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is the sequel to the highly successful Aquaman and fans are definitely excited for it. However, the show has been plagued with controversy since last year after it was revealed the movie would still feature Amber Heard, who portrayed the role of Mera in the first film.

This is because Amber Heard became public enemy #1 after her legal war with her ex-husband Johnny Depp. Multiple reports noted that DC was going to outright remove her from the film, but that didn’t happen – leading to fan backlash.

In the end, it was decided that while Amber Heard would be in the film, she wouldn’t get as significant a role as Heard was originally going to get in the sequel film. Nonetheless, fans still felt Heard should have been removed entirely from the movie.

Warner Bros. Pictures has unveiled the second trailer for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and it featured quite a few things that got fans looking forward to what happens in the film. Not only did it avoid a major character, but the trailer also seems to have hinted at a major death in the film.

Black Manta still being determined to avenge his father’s death and kill Aquaman. It also showed off some thrilling action sequences and the kind of challenges that Aquaman will face in the film. Interestingly enough, the trailer was completely devoid of Amber Heard’s Mera.

That wasn’t the only notable thing in the trailer, as DC might just be planning to kill off Arthur Curry’s father, played by Temuera Morrison. Naturally, one can expect such a death to take place during the climax of the film, as it will be a major plot point.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to open in theaters worldwide beginning December 22nd. We will have to wait and see whether the film will end up shattering Box Office records, as the DCEU definitely needs a hit right now considering its poor track record as of late.
