Keanu Reeves is having quite the career renaissance this year, and now nearly 70,000 people are lobbying for him to be recognized by Time Magazine.
A new petition was started on Change.org, asking for Time Magazine to name the 54 year old actor their 2019 Person of the Year.
The petition was started by Jackson Beem two weeks ago by 68,587 people and counting.
‘Keanu is the most wholesome person alive, make him the person of the year,’ read the petition.
‘Keanu has secretly donated millions of his earnings to children’s hospitals and other charities, and has done amazing things for people in public while ask for nothing in return,’ the plea concluded.
It remains to be seen if Time is aware of the petition or not, but the publication typically announces their Person (or persons) of the year in December.
While Reeves has been a celebrated actor for more than 30 years, this year has been particularly good for him, professionally and personally.
The actor starred in the hit action sequel John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, which is the sixth highest grossing movie of the year with $156 million domestic.
He also had a memorable cameo in the Netflix movie Always Be My Maybe and voices Duke Kaboom in the Pixar animated sequel Toy Story 4, which debuted with $118 million this weekend.
He is also currently filming the long-awaited sequel Bill & Ted Face the Music, and it was recently reported that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has been negotiating with Reeves to star in an unspecified Marvel movie.
Aside from his professional success this year, numerous stories have started to surface as the actor has been doing press for his various movies, which have been charming fans.
For example, a number of photos started circulating of Reeves posing with female fans, where he makes a concerted effort to keep his hands away from them.
He also tugged at heartstrings when Late Show host Stephen Colbert asked, ‘What do you think happens when we die?’ to which he gave an amazing response: ‘I know that the ones who love us will miss us.’
When asked about the recent obsession with him over the past few months, Reeves said, ‘It’s nice when it’s nice,’ in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
‘It’s been really nice and special for me. Just how well the John Wick film was received and then also recently with Always Be My Maybe and then being connected with CD Projekt Red.’
‘I’ve just had the chance to be working with really cool people and be a part of really cool projects. And so to be here with Toy Story 4 is a lot of fun,’ he added.
Reeves will also be starring in a fourth installment of the John Wick franchise, a new action film dubbed Rally Car and a mini-series dubbed Rain.
