John Wick director Chad Stahelski has expressed his desire to helm a Star Wars film at some point in the future. 

Given the unparalleled cultural significance and influence of the Star Wars franchise, it’s not surprising that Stahelski is drawn to the idea of directing within this iconic universe.

Stahelski, renowned for his work on the John Wick series starring Keanu Reeves, shared his aspirations during a recent interview with John Horowitz. He conveyed his readiness to explore the possibility of directing a Star Wars movie, teasing the question of whether Disney could withstand his creative approach, stating, “I’d take a swing at that, see if Disney could survive me.”

Interestingly, Stahelski’s interest in directing a Star Wars film comes at a time when Zack Snyder, another prominent filmmaker, faced rejection from Disney regarding his Star Wars-related project, Rebel Moon. Originally conceived as a part of the Star Wars universe, Rebel Moon evolved into a standalone venture after being turned down by Disney.

Zack Snyder’s idea for Rebel Moon has roots that date back over two decades, preceding his Hollywood career. According to Deborah Snyder, Snyder’s spouse and collaborator, the concept for the film emerged more than 20 years ago, initially envisioned as a science fiction endeavor. Inspired by classics like Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai, a notable influence on George Lucas’s Star Wars, Rebel Moon was conceived as a space-based interpretation of narratives like Ԁirty Dozen or Seven Samurai.

Despite various iterations and attempts to bring Rebel Moon to fruition, including pitches to Warner Bros. and considerations for a television series, the project encountered hurdles and remained unrealized. Nevertheless, Snyder’s enduring vision underscores the creative ambition and persistence within the realm of science fiction filmmaking.
