Keanu Reeves’ portrayal of John Constantine in the DC Universe left a lasting impression, despite the film’s reception falling short of expectations. Fans were disappointed by the lack of follow-up, especially since plans were in place for a sequel that would have seen Constantine teaming up with Swamp Thing.

Frank Cappello, the writer of the 2005 Constantine film, shared insights during a Reddit AMA titled “How I Wrote Constantine: A Journey to Hеll and Back.” He revealed that a potential Constantine 2 was initially on the table, with Swamp Thing slated to appear alongside Reeves’ character. However, due to the underwhelming performance of the first film, plans for the sequel were scrapped.

Swamp Thing and John Constantine have strong ties in the DC comics, originating from the same comic book series penned by Alan Moore. The prоspect of seeing these two characters join forces on screen was enticing to many fans, but unfortunately, it never came to fruition.

Cappello discussed how he devised an alternate character named Mr. ‘E’ to replace Swamp Thing in the sequel script, maintaining the dark and gritty tone of the original source material. However, this project also failed to materialize, as it did not align with the vision of the producers.

Despite the missed opportunity, Cappello expressed a desire to share the script he wrote for the potential Constantine-Swamp Thing crossover, believing it would have been well-received by audiences.
