Ever since Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson had a fallout with his co-stars from the Fast and Furious franchise, he distanced himself from the series. Despite previously announcing his appearance in the 9th and 10th installments, he didn’t share any scenes in the films. The public fallout with Vin Diesel only intensified the situation.
However, it seems that The Rock is set to make a comeback to the franchise as Luke Hobbs in another spin-off film within the Fast and Furious Universe. Unfortunately, fans will only see Hobbs in this untitled film, which will serve as a bridge between Fast X and Fast X: Part II.
When Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson appeared in the post-credits scene of the tenth film, fans worldwide rejoiced at the actor’s return. The celebrations are set to continue as Johnson took to Twitter to confirm his comeback to the franchise, despite his differences with Vin Diesel.
“So, I’m 100% confirming to you guys around the world, that yes, it is true Hobbs is back. Hobbs is back in the Fast and Furious franchise.”
The actor revealed that he would reprise the role of Luke Hobbs in the untitled film, which is currently in active development. However, this film won’t be another spin-off presented by Universal and the franchise but will instead serve as a bridge between Fast X and Fast X: Part Two. Unfortunately, Hobbs’ best friend, Deckard Shaw, will not be part of the film.
After the release of The Fate of the Furious in 2018, Dwayne Johnson publicly criticized his co-stars for their professionalism, referring to them as “chicken sh*t” and “candy asses,” which led to a public fallout with Vin Diesel. However, Johnson deleted the tweet criticizing his co-stars and later explained in a video that he has an “audience first” mentality, allowing him to put aside his differences when considering the bigger picture and plans for the franchise.
“In terms of the why, I think when you, despite us having our differences, me and Vin [Diesel], we’ve been brothers for years and despite having our differences, when you lead with the idea of number one resolve. But then, also, you think about the future, you think about the plans that are much bigger than ourselves, and those bigger plans are the bigger building blocks. Those bigger plans are the north star, as I would like to say.”
“The north star is always my guiding light in whatever endeavor or opportunity that I am in, that I’m passionate about, I always keep a north star in my clarity and in my obsession. And in this case, the north star is the franchise that we love, the north star is the characters we love, and the north star is the fans that we love. When you add all that up, it’s really not a hard decision to make. It’s a yes. So Yes.”
While the cast and plot of The Rock’s untitled film are still a secret, fans can expect to see Jason Momoa reprising his role as Dante Reyes, who will be pitted against Luke Hobbs, as confirmed by the actor in the video.
