Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo is said to be feeling extremely uncomfortable with Lionel Messi’s subtle taunt.
Unlike his arch-rival Lionel Messi, who immediately won another title when he left Europe to play in the US – the 2023 Concacaf League Cup, Cristiano Ronaldo has had a very difficult time. The only title he has won with Al Nassr after nearly 3 years of association is the 2023 Arab Club Champions Cup. However, that is a tournament not recognized by FIFA, so the award that CR7 won is no different from a friendly trophy.
According to statistics, since joining Al Nassr, Ronaldo has failed in 13 consecutive tournaments. Most recently, the owner of 5 Golden Ball titles and his teammates had to stop at the 1/8 round of the Kings Cup – a tournament equivalent to the Saudi Arabian National Cup. Despite having the advantage of playing at home, Al Nassr was defeated by opponent Al Ittihad with a score of 2-1.
It should be noted that both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are considered two of the greatest football players in history, and their rivalry continues despite their age, especially since they play in two very different leagues.
In a recent interview with NBC News, Lionel Messi discussed a number of topics including his participation in the 2026 World Cup, his career, and the importance of team trophies over individual trophies. This last topic was widely interpreted as a veiled reference to Cristiano Ronaldo, who is constantly looking to break every record in sight.

Messi has the opportunity to mock Ronaldo
“Many players are obsessed with personal records. In the end, they forget the main goal, which is the success of the team. To break records, the team must first win,” Lionel Messi shared in the interview.

In fact, Messi also surpassed CR7 in individual awards, which explains why many consider him one of the best players in history. The only record that Messi seems unlikely to compete with Cristiano Ronaldo is the title of “Top goalscorer of all time”, with 950 goals, while Messi only has 891 goals.
