There’s a saying that “matches are made in heaven” However, if Francis Ford Coppola makes one here on earth who would even think of denying it? Such was the case of Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves who played Mina and Jonathan Harker in Coppola’s 1992 Gothic horror “Dracula”. In an interview relating to her recent appearance in the movie “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” Ryder revealed that Keanu and she still call each other husband and wife to this day.

Keanu himself is now 60 years ‘young’ and maintains his presence in the showbiz as one of the most prominent stars in Hollywood. Reeves has insane versatility. Whether it is his appearance in the supernatural world of DC’s Constantine or something softer like “The Lake House”.

Winona Ryder is now returning to the character that gave her the first huge break in the 1988 movie Beetlejuice Ludia Deetz while she was just 16. It’s been 36 years and now she will be the mother of another eccentric teen in the world of Beetlejuice. It is quite interesting to see these two iconic stars talk about their chemistry and friendship.

It is quite endearing indeed, “but why? Or when did this happen?” you may ask. Well, back in 2018 Winona Ryder talked about her experiences while shooting Dracula. in a scene where Mina and Jonathan are tied in wedlock, Winona reveals that Francis Ford Coppola included an Actual Roman Priest and they “might be” actually married! “We did a whole take of a marriage ceremony with real priests.” The actor acclaimed “Coppola says we are, so I guess we’re married under the eyes of god.” This was during her press tour for the rom-com “destination wedding.”

Though being a Francis Ford Coppola creation, you can’t expect the fans to lobe it all (Some of his titles make this exception though- Hail Godfather), it got the classic tag from the fans. And the chemistry between Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves has a major contribution to that. Unlike most adaptations of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, this wasn’t just true to the original material, Coppola blended romance and horror in a perfect manner.

When asked about her friendship with Keanu Reeves in an interview, Winona opened up on how on every birthday she wishes Keanu a “Happy Birthday my Husband” to which she says “and then he’s like:

‘He, my wife, I love you. KR57.’ Like on each birthday he’s like KR57 or whatever his age is. he’s always done that.” 

Proving once again that even though this man holds two of the most badass characters under his belt, whether it be Neo from The Matrix or the man the myth the legend John Wick himself, reeves is always a gentleman. When asked about the possibility of Winona appearing in a John Wick film Winona exclaimed “I would do literally anything though with him. Like he is so special.” But hold it right there. She also went ahead and clarified that excessive stunts make all of it a bit unsuitable for her. “I’m just thinking of my bones.” Ryder added.

Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves go way back. no wonder they have such good chemistry. The two were last seen sharing a screen a few years back in 2018 in the movie “Destination Wedding”. They also appeared in “A Scanner Darkly” in 2006 and again in 2009 in the movie “The Private Lives of Pippa Lee” All of this started with “Dracula” in 1992. 

This would mean that these two have been calling each other husband and wife for over three decades now. It is definitely a treat to see these two on the screen together. Winona’s addition in the John Wick universe remains an intriguing prospect for now. Her recent appearance though is receiving ample positive feedback.
