Lamine Yamal made history again by playing for Spain versus England in the EURO 2024 final.
As is customary, coach Luis de la Fuente selected Yamal to start against England in the most critical match of EURO 2024. Yamal became the youngest player in history to reach the final of a major competition (World Cup, EURO, or Copa America) by putting on his shoes at the age of 17 years and 1 day.
The youthful Barcelona player has broken the previous record set by the “King of Football” Pele. The late hero set the record at the age of 17 and 249 days after competing for Brazil in the 1958 World Cup, nearly seven decades ago.
Yamal, on the other hand, played terribly in the first 45 minutes against England, leaving little impression. Luke Shaw’s excellent performance on the left wing, when the 29-year-old defender read the situation and intercepted Yamal’s dribbling attempts, contributed to this.
However, right at the start of the second half, Yamal spoke up with a dribble and then assisted Nico Williams to finish with a dangerous left-footed effort in the penalty area, opening the scoring for Spain. The Yamal-Williams wings are really assisting La Roja to fly high.
