Fly Me To The Moon first trailer: Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum have out-of-this-world chemistry during 1969’s space race

The first trailer for new movie Fly Me To The Moon was shared on Monday morning.

Scarlett Johansson – who recently learned she is related to Michael Douglas – looks sensational as marketing specialist Kelly Jones who is brought in to pump up NASA’s historic Apollo 11 moon landing.

The brainy beauty has great chemistry with costar Channing Tatum. He plays by-the-book launch director Cole Davis she is immediately attracted to.

The comedy is set in 1969 and is about the race to get to the moon with Apollo 11.

The project is from Apple Original Films and Sony and directed by Greg Berlanti. The theater release date is July 14.

‘When the President deems the mission too important to fail,’ a synopsis teases, ‘Jones is directed to stage a fake moon landing as backup and the countdown truly begins.’

Scarlett’s character brings her publicity expertise to make noise for NASA’s historic Apollo 11 moon landing.

The push pr executive has plenty of tricks up her sleeves like faking identities.

She then starts a romance with Channing’s Davis.

The two are very flirty with each other and have palpable chemistry throughout the clip.

Jones is also asked to stage a fake moon landing as back-up as the countdown begins which he is not too thrilled about.

‘I know a lot more about the moon than I know about you,’ he says to the marketing smarty.

Also in the film are Jim Rash, Ray Romano, Woody Harrelson, Nick Dillenburg, Anna Garcia, Noah Robbins, Colin Woodell, Christian Zuber and Donald Elise Watkins.

At one point Jason Bateman of Ozark fame was going to star in the movie, but he dropped out.

‘The inspiration for this story,’ Berlanti, 51, told People, ‘was to craft a big, fun, smart original movie around whether or not the American government could have possibly faked the Apollo 11 moon landing, which is still the most-watched live TV event in the history of the world and has since become one of the most talked about conspiracy theories.’

The historic moon landing captivated the world.

On July 20, 1969, millions of people gathered around their televisions to watch two U.S. astronauts – Neil Armstrong and Edwin ‘Buzz’ Aldrin – do something no one had ever done before: step foot on the moon.

Johansson last did the Wes Anderson film Asteroid City.

She is best known for Marvel’s Black Widow, which she most recently did in Disney’s eponymous 2021 feature.

Tatum was last in Magic Mike’s Last Dance after appearing in the 2022 movies Dog and The Lost City.

He also has a role in the Zoë Kravitz-directed thriller Blink Twice, set for release this summer. The two are engaged.

Fly Me to the Moon, an Apple Original Film, will be in theaters, in partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment, on July 12, before later streaming on Apple TV+.
