Fans have speculated that her first design, which includes roses on a vine and extends across the top of her back, could be a tribute to her daughter, Rose. The first official glimpse we got of the new ink was in 2017.

The second tattoo, located on her right shoulder blade underneath the roses, appears to be a lamb. Johansson has not shared the meaning behind the design.

On display at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival was Johansson’s bracelet tattoo. The design appears to be a nod to the hammer of Thor, from the Marvel movie “Thor.”

The only tattoo of hers to have color, Johansson has a depiction of a sunrise inside her left forearm. She’s never revealed the meaning of the design, but it features a sun coming up behind a body of water, surrounded by clouds.
