Andre Iguodala Provides Honest Opinion on 2015 Finals MVP: Himself or Stephen Curry?

Andre Iguodala reached the highest moment of his career when he was awarded the 2015 Finals MVP for his defense on LeBron James as the Warriors won their first title in the modern era. Many people still believe Stephen Curry deserved the title over Iggy, a question that the veteran Warriors’ forward opened up on.

“Steph deserved one before the one he got… If it was mine, cool. I know the impact I had on the game. I don’t need anybody to tell me that I did. I’m cool with that, because my whole career is based on that… Yeah, Steph should’ve had mine, I don’t really care.”

Iguodala revealed that Trevor Ariza told Iggy to not give up the accolade to Curry and disrespect his contributions to the Warriors because Ariza’s Rockets looked at Iggy as the biggest difference-maker on the squad.

Iggy averaged unspectacular numbers with 16.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game in the 2015 Finals, but his holding LeBron to 39.8% shooting efficiency made his case.

Did Andre Iguodala Do Enough To Earn Finals MVP?
Iguodala’s defense on LeBron should always be appreciated, as James looked like a one-man army that could’ve taken Golden State down while averaging 40+ points in the Finals. Even though ‘Bron shot just 39.8% in that series from the field, he did average monster stats with 35.8 points, 13.3 rebounds, and 8.8 assists.

The Warriors dynasty era is looming similar to the Spurs era where everyone knew Tim Duncan was the best player on the team, but he only won two Finals MVPs out of five titles. Curry is in a similar boat, winning only one out of four. He averaged 26.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 6.3 assists in 2015, so there’s definitely an argument to be made.

Unfortunately, we can’t re-do results. If losing players could win titles, maybe the 2015 Finals MVP would be better served with LeBron despite his loss due to the carry job he was trying to pull with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love sidelined.
