1955 MERCURY MONTCLAIR CONVERTIBLE

1955 saw the introduction of Mercury’s first overhead valve V-8 engine at 256 cubic inches. In 1955 it grew in both bore and stroke to 292 cubic inches and in the line-topping Montclair to 198 horsepower.

Mercury was restyled, too, on a slightly longer wheelbase which helped create a unique visual identity different from both Fords and Lincolns. A new ball joint independent front suspension improved handling and reduced steering effort. In all, the 1955 Mercury was a classy, distinctive automobile that filled an important niche in Ford Motor Company’s lineup and was selected as Motor Trend’s “Car of the Year,” sharing the honor with the new V-8 powered Chevrolet.

This 1955 Mercury Montclair convertible is one of 10,688 built. Powered by the 292 cubic inch, 198hp V-8 with the Merc-o-Matic automatic transmission, it has been comprehensively restored and done to showroom condition. It is finished in light green with a white accent and has green and white upholstery and a white vinyl top.

Accessories include power steering, wide whitewall tires, hubcaps with wide trim rings, a continental kit, and radio. The engine bay is detailed as it would have been off the assembly line and prepped to show off on a proud Mercury dealer’s showroom. This is a classy Fifties Mercury convertible in classic Fifties colors, thoughtfully restored and presented and ready to be proudly driven and shown by its next owner.
